HONG KONG - Hollywood director John Woo said Tuesday he plans to ask Nicolas Cage and Chow Yun-fat to star in his next film, which will be about foreign railway workers in the United States during the 19th century.

Woo, who is famous for his action films like "Mission: Impossible II," said the movie would mark a departure from his established style, Reuters reported.

China-born Woo, who started his film career in Hong Kong, said "Land of Destiny" would center around Chinese and Irish railway workers in the United States.

"Among them are cultural clashes and racial problems, but eventually they become good friends and build their dreams together. I plan to invite Chow Yun-fat and Nicolas Cage to co-star in it," Woo told a news conference in Hong Kong.

Chow, a household name in Asia, shot to fame for his role in the Oscar-winning epic "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Woo said he would then shoot a romantic comedy about two thieves who fall for the same woman. He also plans to film a Western, and another action movie with singing and dancing.

Woo is in Hong Kong to promote his latest release, "Windtalkers," which opens in Hong Kong on June 27.

The film, starring Cage, is a tale of the Navajo code breakers during World War Two. In the United States box-office receipts for the movie have been below expectations.
