Gong Li Might Join Zhang Yimou Again in a New Film

The anwser to the long-waited question of partnership between Gong Li and Zhang Yimou appeared to be positive.

The two are former partners in almost a dozen films including Red Sorghum (1987), The Terracotta Warrior (1989), Ju Dou (1990), Raise the Red Lantern (1991) etc.

Off the screen they were lovers until Gong Li's marriage in early 1996.

According to the report, both Zhang and Gong were invited by their friend Chen Kaige, the director of Shanghai Triad, for roles in a planned film Jin Ke Ci Qin. Zhang will play the role of Emperor Qin, while Gong Li will play the role of Emperor's lover.

The only remaining problem so far appeared to be technical rather than emotional. Zhang's film Wu Zetian is due to open in August whereas Jin Ke Ci Qin will start in May.
