Why

[Why] Under Tang, the Shang grew steadily stronger and forged alliances with eastern tribes hostile to the Xia. Tang seized the geopolitical moment of Jie's tyranny and lost popular support to publicly raise the banner of righteous war. [What] Tang led elite chariot forces and met Jie's defenders at Mingtiao for the decisive engagement. With gongs and drums thundering, the Shang army surged with morale and crushed Jie's main force, sending Jie himself into exile. [Who] Tang of Shang was a civil-and-military founding monarch who won the support of allied states with his banner of justice. The sage minister Yi Yin served as his strategist and proved decisive in war preparation. [How] Mingtiao is the earliest revolutionary decisive battle recorded in Chinese written history, ending Xia rule definitively.
