Luo Pin

Yangzhou painter and pupil of Jin Nong, the youngest of the Eight Eccentrics, known for the ghost scroll he carried to Beijing for colophons

Also known as Zi Dunfu · Hao Liangfeng

Luo Pin, courtesy name Dunfu, styled Liangfeng and also the Monk of the Flower Temple, had family roots in She county, Anhui, but lived in Yangzhou. In his twenties he became a pupil of Jin Nong, and some of the old master's late paintings are said to have been done by his hand. He painted figures, Buddhist images, plum blossom and bamboo, and his scroll of ghosts, Guiqu tu, showing spirits of every shape, went with him to Beijing, where many leading scholars added colophons. He made the journey to the capital three times; his wife Fang Wanyi, known as the Lay Buddhist of the White Lotus, was also a poet and painter. He died in Yangzhou in 1799, and most lists of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou include him as the youngest member.
