Also known as Zi Nanyu · Hao Shenghua Jushi
Ding Yunpeng, courtesy name Nanyu and art name Shenghua Jushi, came from a family of physicians in Xiuning, Anhui; his father was Ding Zan. He painted figures and Buddhist images, especially in fine outline, as well as landscapes and flowers, and Dong Qichang thought highly of him. He also drew many designs for Huizhou woodblock books, including the ink catalogues of the Cheng and Fang families. The Palace Museum in Beijing holds his handscroll Lady Feng Blocking the Bear, signed in the spring of 1583, which shows Consort Feng stepping between Emperor Yuan of Han and an escaped bear; the National Palace Museum in Taipei has his Three Teachings among other works.
