A desk holds an unrolled sheet bearing three bold black ink strokes, with a rack of many brushes above it, a stone ink slab and ink stick, a porcelain bowl, a red lacquer box, a dish of red seal paste and a paperweight; a small seated figure shows through a round window onto bamboo.
Also known as Jin Kun of Qiantang
Jin Kun, from Qiantang (Hangzhou), was a Qing court painter of landscapes and figures whose careful manner shows the influence of European painting. His album of poems on birds is dated 1735. In 1736 he joined Chen Mei, Sun Hu, Dai Hong and Cheng Zhidao in painting the Qing Court version of Along the River at the Qingming Festival, and in 1740 he worked on the album Celebrating a Bountiful Year. The Palace Museum's handscroll Skating on the Ice is credited to Jin Kun, Cheng Zhidao, Fulong'an and others.
