Shi Daoyuan, named Daoyuan and called the Iron Bamboo Daoist, was from Hengtang in Wu county, Suzhou. Ordained young at the Chaozhen Temple, he learned the Five Thunder rites at nineteen from Xu Yanzhen of Longhu Mountain and later settled on Qionglong Mountain, where he founded his own lineage. In 1658 he received an honorific Daoist title, and he afterwards managed the Xuanmiao Temple, repairing its halls of the Three Pure Ones and the Thunder Lord. He died in 1678. The ritual books he compiled, such as Zhaitian, together with the Juntian miaoyue revised by Cao Xisheng in the Jiaqing reign, still govern the Zhengyi ritual music of the Xuanmiao Temple.
