Spring Outing
A spring dance in Tibetan style
On a meadow between snow peaks and a river valley, dancers in Tibetan robes with long sleeves step in a circle. Prayer flags stand at left, while tents and horses are seen at right.
Introduction
A dance Dai Ailian adapted from Tibetan dance, staged in Chongqing in 1946
Spring Outing is a dance created by the dancer Dai Ailian, adapted from Tibetan dance and close in style to her Ba'an Xianzi. When the Frontier Music and Dance Plenary opened at the Chongqing Youth Hall on 6 March 1946, Spring Outing was item eleven on the programme. Eight of the programme's items were new works Dai had made since leaving Hong Kong, Spring Outing among them. Dai danced in most of these new works herself, but possibly not in Spring Outing.
