Li Rongjin
Yuan painter of ruled-line architecture, a follower of Wang Zhenpeng, best known for the hanging scroll Han Palace
A desk holds an unrolled sheet bearing three bold black ink strokes, with a rack of many brushes above it, a stone ink slab and ink stick, a porcelain bowl, a red lacquer box, a dish of red seal paste and a paperweight; a small seated figure shows through a round window onto bamboo.
Also known as Zi Gongyan
Li Rongjin, courtesy name Gongyan, was a Yuan painter whose dates are unknown. Xia Wenyan's Precious Mirror of Painting (Tuhui baojian) says he painted ruled-line architecture and landscape and followed Wang Zhenpeng. Ruled-line painting used a straightedge to draw palaces and pavilions, and most Yuan practitioners came from Wang's circle. His signed hanging scroll Han Palace, in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, stacks halls, galleries and terraces among rocks and trees painted in the manner of Li Cheng and Guo Xi. Its theme recalls the Western Han palaces that Xiao He built, as described in the Miscellaneous Records of the Western Capital.
