Pan Rongbi, courtesy name Zaiting, was a native of Daxing in Shuntian prefecture. In the preface to his Dijing suishi jisheng he says he began serving in the palace in 1731 and joined the history office in 1733, where he could read the books of the imperial collection, and that in 1746 he retired to care for his aged parents. He then set down what he had seen, and the preface to the Dijing suishi jisheng is dated 1758. Running from the first month to the twelfth, the book records Beijing's festivals, temple fairs, markets, outings and seasonal produce. The same preface lists other works of his, including a Yueling jilan.
