Second Jamyang Zhepa

Amdo Gelug master and second Jamyang Zhepa of Labrang Monastery, enthroned there in 1743, from whose time the monastery's Daodeer ceremonial music is said to date.

Also known as Konchok Jigme Wangpo · Gongquehu Jiumei Angwu

The second Jamyang Zhepa, Konchok Jigme Wangpo, was born in southern Amdo in 1728 and recognised as the rebirth of the first Jamyang Zhepa; in 1743 he was brought to Labrang Monastery and enthroned, and he went on to lead it. He returned to Labrang in 1772, founded its medical college in 1784 and left more than twelve volumes of writings. Daodeer, the hall music of Labrang played in the Jamyang's processions, teachings and receptions, is said in the intangible-heritage record to have begun in 1743 in his time; another account holds that its scores and instruments were a gift to him from a Mongol prince. He died in 1791.
