Shu Menglan (1759–1835), courtesy name Baixiang, was a Qing lyricist from Jing'an in Jiangxi. His Baixiang Cipu gathers one hundred lyrics by fifty-nine poets from Li Bai of the Tang to Huang Zhijun of the Qing, each representing a different tune with the tonal pattern marked for every character, and takes its title from his courtesy name. Simple in design and convenient for beginners, it has been a standard primer for learning to compose ci since the Qing.
