Mu Hua
Western Jin fu writer, courtesy name Xuanxu, a registrar to the Grand Tutor Yang Jun; only his Ode to the Sea survives, in the Wen Xuan, a classic of writing on the ocean.
In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.

Mu Hua, courtesy name Xuanxu, from Guangchuan, was a Western Jin writer of fu. He served as registrar to Yang Jun, Grand Tutor under Emperor Hui of Jin, and his dates are unknown. His collection, the Muhua Ji, is lost; only the Ode to the Sea survives, preserved in the Wen Xuan. It portrays the vastness of the ocean and its fabulous creatures and is a leading example of sea writing among the fu of the Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.
