Shi Cen
Han literary man, courtesy name Xiaoshan, author of the Eulogy on the Army's Departure in the Wen xuan, later written in cursive clerical script by Suo Jing.
In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.

Shi Cen, courtesy name Xiaoshan, was a literary man of the Han whose work appears in the Wen xuan; his dates and life are almost unknown. His main piece is the Eulogy on the Army's Departure, which uses the rise of the Han house to celebrate a moment approved by heaven and men. A rubbing of the carved text survives, and the National University of Singapore's description says the carving follows Suo Jing's cursive clerical script of the Jin. Scholars place him variously in the Eastern Han or at the Han transition, so he is placed in the Han generally.
