Ye Ruibo
Qing man of letters, named Tingrui, who traded in Guangdong and Guangxi and whom modern scholars favour as the author of the narrative song Lament of Autumn.
In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.

Ye Ruibo, named Tingrui, with the courtesy name Ruibo and the literary name Liancheng, was a Qing man of letters, born around 1786 (the 51st year of Qianlong) and dying around 1830 (the 10th year of Daoguang). Accounts differ on whether he came from Tong'an in Fujian or Nanhai in Guangdong. As a young man he traded in Guangdong and Guangxi. The Cantonese narrative song Lament of Autumn was long held to be Miao Gen's own story, but according to Ye's descendants he wrote it in the Daoguang reign about a romance of his own, and the scholars Leung Pui-chee, Li Jiechang and Chen Yongxin are among those who accept this view.
