On the small stage of a Yuan playhouse a female lead in plain clothes, a cangue on her neck, kneels at the centre and lifts her head to vow as white paper snowflakes begin to fall from above, with a drummer and a flute player at the side.

Li Qianjin waits for the night meeting and the old nurse comes upon the pair; Li Qianjin argues her case, and in the end the nurse lets them go and the two leave together. The first tune is Yizhi hua.
