Zhu Fang, courtesy name Changtong, came from Xiangyang in Xiangzhou, Hubei, and his birth year is unknown. In 782 Li Gao, the hereditary Prince of Cao and governor of Jiangxi, hired him as staff adviser, but he soon returned home and retired to Danyang. In 786 the court summoned him as a Reminder under an edict seeking hidden talents, but he fell ill on the way and went back to Wu without taking office; he died between about 787 and 789. The Complete Tang Poems preserves twenty-five of his poems, and the Thousand Family Poems attributes Ti Zhulin Si to him.
