Liu Shenxu
High Tang poet styled Quanyi from Xinwu in Hongzhou, whose untitled poem with the line 'at times a fallen blossom comes' is much loved.
In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.
Also known as Quanyi · Tingqing · Liu Shenxu (variant form)
Liu Shenxu, also written with another form of the first character, courtesy name Quanyi or Tingqing, came from Xinwu in Hongzhou and was a High Tang poet. He served as commandant of Luoyang, magistrate of Xia county and collator in the library. His untitled poem with the line 'at times a fallen blossom comes, its scent borne far on the stream' is famous for a quiet, empty mood and may originally have been titled 'Returning to the Peach Blossom Land'. His dates are put at c. 714 to c. 767, neither certain.
