Act Five
The orphan takes back the Zhao name as Zhao Wu and Tu'an Gu's clan is destroyed; this act is found only in the Yuanqu xuan text
Mural guide
On the small stage of a Yuan playhouse a female lead in plain clothes, a cangue on her neck, kneels at the centre and lifts her head to vow as white paper snowflakes begin to fall from above, with a drummer and a flute player at the side.
The orphan appeals to Duke Dao of Jin, Wei Jiang has Tu'an Gu's clan destroyed, and the orphan takes back the Zhao name as Zhao Wu. The Yuan edition lacks this act, which is thought to have been added later.
