In late Northern Song, Emperor Huizong sank into the luxury enjoyment of exotic flowers and stones, court was held by traitor officials like Cai Jing. The newly risen northern Jurchen Jin, after wiping out Liao, swung the army to grand southward invasion of the Central Plains.
Epochal Overview
The Jin army main force drove deep to besiege Bianjing Kaifeng, and the garrison suffered a great defeat under foolish decision-making. Bianjing fell, the Jin army sacked the whole city and forcibly carried off the two emperors Huizong and Qinzong and thousands of royal clan and craftsmen northward.
