Zhang He

Cao Wei general who went over from Yuan Shao at Guandu, routed Ma Su at Jieting, and was killed by an arrow while pursuing Zhuge Liang at Mumen

Also known as Zi Junyi

Zhang He, courtesy name Junyi, came from Mao county in Hejian; he joined the campaign against the Yellow Turbans and served Han Fu and then Yuan Shao. At Guandu in 200 he urged Yuan to relieve the depot at Wuchao, was overruled and slandered by Guo Tu, and went over to Cao Cao, who made him a lieutenant general. He fought the Wuhuan, Ma Chao and Zhang Lu, shared the defence of Hanzhong with Xiahou Yuan, and when Xiahou fell at Mount Dingjun the officers chose him as acting commander to steady the army. In 228, during Zhuge Liang's first northern campaign, he crushed Ma Su at Jieting and forced the Shu army back. In 231 he pursued the retreating Zhuge Liang to Mumen, where an arrow struck his right knee and killed him; he was named Marquis Zhuang. In the Records of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguozhi) Chen Shou grouped his biography with those of Zhang Liao, Yue Jin, Yu Jin and Xu Huang.
