Chen Bozhi
Southern Qi–Liang general who defected to the Northern Wei and returned to Liang after Qiu Chi's famous letter.
At dusk on a hilltop, a large tent stands open with a table holding a map marked with small stones inside, a saddled horse tethered outside, and fire stands burning; campfires dot the river plain below, and one tiny sentry stands on the slope.

Chen Bozhi of Suiling in Jiyin rose from poverty through physical courage, fighting under Wang Guangzhi and earning promotion to general. Under the last Southern Qi emperor he governed Jiangzhou from Xunyang. When Xiao Yan rose in revolt, he wavered and then submitted, receiving a higher command. In 502 he rebelled against the new Liang dynasty at Jiangzhou and, defeated, fled to the Northern Wei, who made him a general. During the Liang northern expedition of 505, the secretary Qiu Chi wrote urging him to come home; the next year he crossed back at Shouyang with eight thousand men, was given a governorship, and eventually died at home. Qiu Chi's Letter to Chen Bozhi is that appeal.
