In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.

Jing Cha was a fu writer of late Warring States Chu who belonged to the royal Mi clan and its Jing branch. Coming after Qu Yuan, he was grouped by Sima Qian in the Records of the Grand Historian with Song Yu and Tang Le as men famous for their fu. The Chuci poem Da Zhao is attributed by some to him; Wang Yi's commentary says it was by Qu Yuan or, some say, Jing Cha, and the question has never been settled.
