Liu Chenweng, courtesy name Huimeng and style name Xuxi, was from Luling in Jizhou (modern Ji'an, Jiangxi), and lived 1232 to 1297. He took the jinshi degree in 1262 and, after the fall of the Song, lived in retirement without office, known for his lyrics and for his commentary on poetry and prose. His Xuxi ji ran to a hundred scrolls and was long lost; Qing editors recovered ten from the Yongle Encyclopedia. He also left the Xuxi ci, and four of his lyrics are in the Three Hundred Song Lyrics.
