Rites for Loyal Souls
Bells and an erhu cadenza mourn the nameless soldiers who died defending the nation.
Mural guide
In a bright hall with tall windows, a conductor on a podium raises his hands before an orchestra seated at music stands. Players in long gowns and qipao perform on erhu, pipa, ruan, flutes and sheng, with drums at the back.
Part of · Great Wall Capriccio
The third movement moves through a slow section, a largo, a free erhu cadenza and an orchestral climax. The orchestra at times imitates the echo of ancient bells and a humming male chorus, and leads straight into the fourth movement.
