Emperor Shang of Han

Fifth Eastern Han emperor, enthroned as a baby of about a hundred days under the regency of Empress Dowager Deng, who died after some eight months of the Yanping era

Also known as Liu Long

Liu Long, Emperor Shang of Han, was the youngest son of Emperor He and was born in 105. When his father died in the twelfth month of that Chinese year, February 106, Empress Deng passed over the eldest son Liu Sheng, who suffered from a chronic illness, and enthroned the baby, then little more than a hundred days old, ruling herself as empress dowager. The new reign was named Yanping, and government lay with the empress dowager and her brother Deng Zhi, General of Chariots and Cavalry. The child died in the eighth month, September 106, after about eight months on the throne, and received the posthumous name Shang, used for those who die young; he was buried at Kangling. The empress dowager and Deng Zhi then chose Liu Hu, son of the Prince of Qinghe, who became Emperor An. No other Eastern Han ruler came to the throne younger or died sooner.
