Liu Bing, Emperor Chong of Han, was the son of Emperor Shun and the Honoured Lady Yu, born in 143. He was named crown prince in the fourth month of 144, and when his father died in the eighth month the two-year-old became emperor, with his father's empress, now Empress Dowager Liang, ruling for him, and her brother Liang Ji, as regent-general, sharing control of the secretariat with the grand commandant Li Gu. The era name was changed to Yongjia, and in the first month of 145 the child died in the Yutang front hall, aged three by Chinese reckoning, having reigned less than half a year. He was posthumously named Xiaochong and buried at Huailing. The empress dowager and Liang Ji then chose Liu Zuan, son of the Prince of Bohai, as Emperor Zhi, a boy whom Liang Ji would poison the following year.
