Liu Rengong

Late Tang military governor of Lulong who took Youzhou with Li Keyong's help, turned against him, was imprisoned by his own son, and was executed by the Jin in 914

Also known as Lu Long Jie Du Shi

Liu Rengong came from Leshou in Shenzhou and served in the Lulong army, where his skill at tunnelling under city walls earned him the nickname Liu the Digger. He went over to Li Keyong of Hedong, who captured Youzhou in 894 and left him in charge, and the Tang court made him military governor of Lulong the following year. He soon broke with Li Keyong and defeated the Hedong army sent against him at Muguajian in 897. In later years he built lavish lodges on Mount Da'an, hoarded coin and made his subjects use money of clay, until in 907 his son Liu Shouguang stormed the mountain and locked him away. After Liu Shouguang proclaimed himself emperor of Yan, the Jin general Zhou Dewei took Youzhou in 913. The next year Li Cunxu, Prince of Jin, sent father and son to Jinyang, and Liu Rengong was taken to Li Keyong's tomb in Daizhou, where blood was drawn from his heart as an offering before he was beheaded.
