Diao Chan
A cultural persona shaped through Yuan drama and canonized in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, remembered for the chain-stratagem narrative that separates Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu.
In lantern light and drifting smoke, a row of painted theatrical masks stands on a wooden rail beneath a glowing paper dragon lantern and hanging red lanterns; a folding screen painted with a river, a bridge and hills stands at the right, with a bronze burner and small lamps on the floor.

- Cultural Persona
Diao Chan is a cultural persona gradually shaped by Yuan- and Ming-period Three Kingdoms arts. Records in the Sanguozhi describe Lü Bu's affair with an unnamed maid of Dong Zhuo and the Wang Yun plot that led Lü Bu to kill Dong Zhuo, but they do not name Diao Chan or record the chain stratagem. Yuan drama and the Ming novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms recast her as the pivotal agent who separates Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu. This entry registers an influential cultural persona, not a historically verified individual.
