In the courtyard of a district government hall, a line of petitioners waits before a raised bench with a long table and document boxes; a blue umbrella stands beside it, a large drum stands at the gate where a few people wait, and a lake with sailboats lies beyond.
Also known as Yuanshou
Cao Jiong, courtesy name Yuanshou, was a member of the Cao Wei imperial clan descended from Cao Shuxing, elder brother of Cao Teng, and ended as Governor of Hongnong. Under Cao Fang, when Cao Shuang held power, he wrote the Treatise on the Six Dynasties, reviewing the rise and fall of the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han and Wei and urging that the imperial house be strengthened; it was not adopted. Sima Yan admired the essay and thought it was by Cao Zhi. It is included in the Wen Xuan.
