At dusk on a hilltop, a large tent stands open with a table holding a map marked with small stones inside, a saddled horse tethered outside, and fire stands burning; campfires dot the river plain below, and one tiny sentry stands on the slope.

Shen Qingzhi, courtesy name Hongxian, came from Wukang in Wuxing (now Deqing, Zhejiang) and was a Liu Song general who lived 386 to 465. He served under Emperors Wen, Xiaowu and Qianfei, pacified the tribes of the Xiang and Yong regions, and put down the rebellions of Liu Shao, Lu Shuang and Liu Dan, rising to Palace Attendant and Grand Commandant as Duke of Shixing. When he tried to restrain Emperor Qianfei's cruelty he was sent poison and, when his nephew refused to give it, was smothered in 465. A banquet poem is credited to him, said to have been dictated to another to write down.
