In a study at night, a desk holds a brush pot, a porcelain vase with a plum branch, a lit red lantern, a folded fan and an unrolled blank scroll, with no one seated there, while through a round window the moon rises over a lake with a sailboat.

Li Yu was a Song ci poet of whom nothing else is known; his dates are unknown. The eighth chapter of Huang Sheng's Hua'an cixuan includes his lyric to the tune He xinlang, opening with incense smoke over a gilded tripod, under the title Spring Feelings.
