Yang Luchan (1799–1872), with the name Fukui, came from Yongnian in Zhili, in what is now Handan, Hebei. He went to Chen Village in Wen County, Henan, to study taijiquan under Chen Changxing and returned home in 1833. He later taught in Beijing, where his students were mostly princes and nobles. He eased demanding movements such as jumps in the forms, and the style he taught came to be called Yang-style taijiquan.
