Backstage of a theatre troupe, an open trunk spills embroidered red and blue robes, one worked with a phoenix, beneath a jewelled headdress with long plumes; a mirror stand, a stool and a row of painted drums stand beside it, with a red curtain hanging at the right.
Stage performers are people who appeared on stage in drama, dance and storytelling, such as actors, singer-dancers and storytellers. Their reputation comes from performance, teachers and schools, and appears in notes and poems by contemporaries. They differ from musicians in being defined by performing on stage rather than playing instruments.
