Li You

Eldest son of the Qin chancellor Li Si who held Xingyang against Wu Guang's rebels and was killed at Yongqiu, his conduct used by Zhao Gao to destroy his father

Li You was the eldest son of the Qin chancellor Li Si and governor of Sanchuan commandery; all of Li Si's sons married Qin princesses and all his daughters married Qin princes. The Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji) says that when Li You came home to Xianyang on leave, his father gave a banquet at which every senior official came to toast him and thousands of carriages filled the gate, and Li Si sighed that nothing should be allowed to grow so great. When Chen Sheng rose in 209 BC, Wu Guang marched west and besieged Xingyang, but Li You held the city. Zhao Gao later built his case against Li Si by claiming that rebels had passed freely through Sanchuan because Li You would not fight them and had corresponded with them. In 208 BC Liu Bang and Xiang Yu defeated a Qin army at Yongqiu and beheaded Li You, and in the same year Li Si was cut in two at Xianyang.
