Zhou Bo

Han founding general and Marquis of Jiang who, with Chen Ping, destroyed the Lu clan after Empress Lu's death and placed Emperor Wen on the throne

Zhou Bo came from Pei; he wove silkworm mats in his youth, played the pipes at funerals and was a strong archer. He joined Liu Bang's rising against the Qin, fought through the war with Chu, was made Marquis of Jiang in 201 BCE, and helped crush the revolts of Zang Tu, Chen Xi and Lu Wan. The dying Liu Bang named him as the man to keep the Liu house safe. When she died in 180 BCE he and Chen Ping took over the Northern Army, calling on the soldiers to bare their left arms for the Liu clan, then wiped out the Lu clan and enthroned the Prince of Dai as Emperor Wen, who made Zhou chancellor of the right. Later jailed on a charge of rebellion, he said on his release that he had led a million men yet never knew the power of a prison clerk. He died in 169 BCE, named Wu, and his son Zhou Yafu later crushed the Revolt of the Seven States.
