Yu Jin, courtesy name Wenze, came from Juping in Taishan. He followed Bao Xin when the Yellow Turbans rose, then joined Cao Cao, who gave him a command on Wang Lang's recommendation. When Cao's army broke up at Wan in 197, Yu alone brought his men back in order and punished Qingzhou troops plundering along the road; Cao said not even the generals of old could surpass him and made him a district marquis. He held Yanjin during the Guandu campaign, later crushed Chang Xi, and rose to General of the Left with the battle axe of command, feared for his harsh discipline. In 219, sent to help Cao Ren hold Fan, he saw the autumn floods of the Han River swamp all seven armies under him and surrendered to Guan Yu, while Pang De died refusing. Sun Quan, after taking Guan Yu, sent him home in 221; Cao Pi had him visit Cao Cao's tomb, where a painting showed his surrender, and he fell ill from shame and died.
