Gao Jichong, courtesy name Chenghe, was the son of Gao Baorong of Jingnan; because he was a child when his father died, his uncle Gao Baoxu ruled in his place, and only on Gao Baoxu's death in 962 did he become governor. That year Zhang Wenbiao rebelled in Hunan, and the Hunan ruler Zhou Baoquan asked the Song for help; Emperor Taizu sent Murong Yanzhao and Li Chuyun south and requested passage through Jingnan. In the second month of 963, as Song troops neared Jiangling and Gao went out to feast them, Li Chuyun rode ahead with light cavalry and occupied the city, leaving Gao no choice but to surrender his three prefectures and seventeen counties. The Song made him military governor of Wuning instead, and he died in 973.
