Gong He
Regent associated with the Gonghe administration after the uprising
Mural of the event “Guoren Revolt & Gonghe”, which this person took part in.
In the late Western Zhou, King Li enforced royal monopoly policies on mountains and rivers and adopted brutal speech suppression. Class contradictions sharpened to unprecedented levels.
Also known as Gongbo He · Earl He of Gong
Gong He, also called Gongbo He or Earl He of Gong, was a Western Zhou figure linked to the Gonghe period, the fourteen years between King Li's flight to Zhi and the accession of King Xuan. The Bamboo Annals and related texts say he exercised royal authority in those years and returned to his own state when King Xuan took the throne; the Records of the Grand Historian instead says that the Dukes of Zhou and Shao governed jointly, later identified as Duke Ding of Zhou and Duke Mu of Shao. Some identify him with Duke Wu of Wei. The Tsinghua bamboo slips also record his rule.
