Ji Wenzi, personal name Xingfu of the Jisun lineage, Wen being his posthumous name, was a grandson of Ji You and a leading minister of Lu. Active from the reign of Duke Wen, he served Dukes Xuan, Cheng and Xiang and long directed Lu's government. The Zuozhuan records that at his death his concubines wore no silk, his horses ate no grain and he left no hoard of gold or jade, and contemporaries judged him loyal to the ducal house. The Analects notes that he thought three times before acting, to which Confucius replied that twice would do.
