Chen Yu of Daliang, a student of Confucian learning, was once Zhang Er's sworn friend. He joined Chen Sheng's rising against Qin and helped set up Wu Chen and Zhao Xie as kings of Zhao, but fell out with Zhang Er after the siege of Julu. Left without a kingdom in Xiang Yu's settlement, he drove Zhang Er out with Qi troops, restored Zhao Xie and was made King of Dai, styled Lord of Cheng'an. In 204 BCE he rejected Li Zuoche's advice, was routed by Han Xin at Jingxing and was beheaded on the Zhi River; he is Han Xin's opponent in the famous back-to-the-river battle.
