Zhang Er of Daliang was in his youth a retainer of the Lord of Xinling and later magistrate of Waihuang, sworn friend of Chen Yu. He joined the rising against Qin and helped install Wu Chen and Zhao Xie as kings of Zhao, but quarrelled with Chen Yu after the siege of Julu. Xiang Yu made him King of Changshan; driven out by Chen Yu, he went over to Liu Bang. In 204 BCE he campaigned with Han Xin against Zhao, broke through at Jingxing and saw Chen Yu killed, and was then made King of Zhao, dying in 202 BCE with the posthumous name Jing. He appears as Han Xin's colleague in the Biography of the Marquis of Huaiyin.
