Tangyi Fu
Hu archer who accompanied Zhang Qian on his first western mission and was one of only two to return, honoured as Lord Fengshi.
On a road beside a desert gateway, a camel train carries a lidded chest and rolled bundles while travellers walk along the path; a large sailing ship lies in the harbour at the right, a stone waymark stands by the road, and dunes and mountains fill the distance.
Also known as Gan Fu · Lord Fengshi
Tangyi Fu was a Hu man, a slave of the Tangyi household named Gan Fu. A fine archer, he set out with Zhang Qian from Longxi for the Great Yuezhi early in Emperor Wu's reign, was held by the Xiongnu for more than ten years, then escaped with Zhang through Dayuan and Kangju to the Yuezhi. Captured again on the way home, the pair slipped away during Xiongnu turmoil and reached Han in 126 BCE, the only two of more than a hundred men to return. He fed them by shooting game when supplies ran out, and Emperor Wu named him Lord Fengshi.
