Wang Gui
Northern Song chief councillor from Huayang, a jinshi of 1042 who served as councillor for sixteen years and was made Duke of Qi.
In a council hall, a long table holds an unrolled map scroll, a brass-cornered chest and a brush pot, with tall-backed chairs around it and a bronze lamp at the left; a figure stands with their back turned on the balcony at the right, with palace roofs beyond.
Also known as Zi Yuyu · Duke of Qi · Posthumous name Wengong
Wang Gui, courtesy name Yuyu, came from Huayang (modern Chengdu) and was born in 1019. He took the jinshi in 1042 and served as prefectural assistant at Yangzhou, drafting official, Hanlin academician, prefect of Kaifeng and Academician-in-Waiting, became participant in governing affairs in 1070 and later Chief Councillor and Left Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. Enfeoffed as Duke of Qi when Emperor Zhezong took the throne, he died in office in 1085 with the posthumous name Wengong. The Songshi faults him for achieving little in sixteen years in power. The Qianjia Shi includes his poem for the Lantern Festival, composed to imperial command.
