Qin Hui, courtesy name Huizhi, from Jiangning, passed the civil-service examination in 1115. Carried north by the Jin after the Jingkang disaster, he returned south in 1130 saying he had escaped, a claim some at court already doubted. He was chancellor twice, in 1131 to 1132 and from 1138 to 1155, and pressed for peace with Jin, concluding the Shaoxing peace in 1141. Yue Fei was imprisoned on a charge of treason and executed in January 1142; the History of Song blames Qin Hui for the case and places him among the treacherous ministers. He died in 1155.
