Gao Ruona, courtesy name Minzhi, came from Yuci in Bingzhou and later settled in Weizhou. As Left Remonstrator in 1036, he not only failed to defend Fan Zhongyan when Fan was demoted but disparaged him in company. Ouyang Xiu's 'Letter to Remonstrator Gao' denounced him as a man who no longer knew shame; Gao submitted the letter to the emperor and Ouyang was exiled to Yiling. Gao later rose to Assistant Commissioner of Military Affairs and Vice Chief Councillor, and was also a skilled physician who helped edit medical classics. He is the addressee of Ouyang's letter.
