Xue Juzheng
Official of the Five Dynasties and early Song who, as chief minister, supervised the compilation of the Old History of the Five Dynasties.
In a council hall, a long table holds an unrolled map scroll, a brass-cornered chest and a brush pot, with tall-backed chairs around it and a bronze lamp at the left; a figure stands with their back turned on the balcony at the right, with palace roofs beyond.
Also known as Zi Ziping
Xue Juzheng, courtesy name Ziping, was a native of Junyi in Kaifeng. He passed the jinshi in the Qingtai era of Later Tang and served the Later Jin, Later Han and Later Zhou before entering the Song, where he became Assistant Chief Minister and then Chief Minister, being made Minister of Works under Taizong. Ordered in 973 to supervise a history of the Five Dynasties, he saw it completed the following year; covering the Liang, Tang, Jin, Han and Zhou, it is now called the Old History of the Five Dynasties to distinguish it from Ouyang Xiu's New History. He died in 981 aged 70, posthumously named Wenhui.
