Wei Juyuan
Tang chief minister from Wannian in the capital region under Wu Zetian and Emperor Zhongzong, recorded as the compiler of a Burnt-Tail Banquet menu.
In a council hall, a long table holds an unrolled map scroll, a brass-cornered chest and a brush pot, with tall-backed chairs around it and a bronze lamp at the left; a figure stands with their back turned on the balcony at the right, with palace roofs beyond.
Also known as Shi Zhao
Wei Juyuan (631–710) came from Wannian in the capital region and received the posthumous name Zhao. Under Wu Zetian he served as vice minister of vassal affairs and assistant minister of war, and became a chief minister. Under Emperor Zhongzong he served as Minister of Works, head of the Chancellery and Left Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. Records credit him with the menu of the Burnt-Tail Banquet he gave on his promotion to Left Vice Director. In 710, during the Tanglong coup, he was killed by rebel troops on his way to court.
