Meng Huo was a leader in the Nanzhong region. The main text of the Sanguozhi has no biography of him; he appears in the Chronicle of Huayang, the Han-Jin Chunqiu and other works, and the story of his seven captures and seven releases is told in Pei Songzhi's commentary and the Zizhi Tongjian. After Zhuge Liang's southern campaign pacified Nanzhong in 225, Meng Huo submitted and later served Shu Han as vice censor. Figures such as Lady Zhurong and Meng You come mainly from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
