Min River Estuary
The winding waterway where the Min River breaks through the Zhejiang-Fujian hills to strike the East China Sea — rugged terrain that birthed the unofficial private maritime trade and pirate legends of the Ming-Qing era.

- Mawei Shipbuilding Academy & Workshop
Often called the birthplace of China's modern navy and a cradle of engineering education, the academy trained notable figures such as Yan Fu and Sa Zhenbing.

- Luoxing Pagoda (China Tower) in Fuzhou
Known to foreign sailors as China Tower, Luoxing Pagoda long served as a navigation landmark where the tides of the Min River converge.
- Changle Zheng He Pagoda & Dengying Stele
Zheng He's treasure fleet anchored at Taiping Harbor in Changle before its seven voyages west, praying here for fair winds and erecting a stele to the sea goddess Tianfei.

- Langqi Island Mangrove Reserve in Minjiang Estuary
Formed where the fresh water of the Min River meets the sea, alluvial Langqi Island offers mudflat wetlands that shelter flocks of migratory birds.

Part of Min River Estuary's history: Self-Strengthening Movement. Late Qing official from Hefei who raised the Huai Army, governed Zhili for a quarter century and signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki and the Boxer Protocol
- Yixin1833–1898 CE
Part of Min River Estuary's history: Self-Strengthening Movement. Qing prince, sixth son of the Daoguang emperor, who negotiated with Britain and France in 1860 and headed the new foreign affairs office, the Zongli Yamen, for over twenty years
- Zeng Guofan1811–1872 CE
Part of Min River Estuary's history: Self-Strengthening Movement. Qing official from Xiangxiang who raised the Xiang Army, defeated the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in 1864 and set up one of the first modern arsenals at Anqing
- Zuo Zongtang1812–1885 CE
Part of Min River Estuary's history: Self-Strengthening Movement. Late Qing commander and governor-general who founded the Mawei shipyard and, as imperial commissioner, recovered Xinjiang outside Ili and proposed making it a province
Ming1
- Zheng He Voyages Stage at Changle1405–1433 CE
From 1405 to 1433, Zheng He made seven western voyages, with the fleet staging at Changle's Taiping Port before sailing out.
Qing3
- Self-Strengthening Movement
Self-Strengthening officials founded arsenals, shipyards, and technical schools to introduce machine production, modern weapons, translation, and naval training.
- Zuo Zongtang Founds the Fuzhou Shipyard1866 CE
In 1866, Zuo Zongtang initiated the Fuzhou Shipyard at Mawei, with Shen Baozhen subsequently taking charge of its development.

On 23 August 1884, the French fleet attacked the Fujian Fleet at the Min River anchorage, beginning the Battle of Mawei.
